Coilover / Adjustable suspension

Coilover / Threaded body / Adjustable suspension are different ways of saying the same thing.

Coilover is the English term; threaded body is what adjustable suspensions are commonly called in Spain. Below we will detail the variations with all the features that each type offers. The range is as wide as the variation in performance and cost of each option.

What is a Coilover, a threaded body, or an adjustable suspension?

The evolution of sport suspensions, a suspension that combines springs and shock absorbers in a functional strut. The struts of Coilover-type suspensions, threaded bodies, and adjustable suspensions can provide different features that offer more or less possibilities for suspension customization.

Variations and features

Height-adjustable suspensions

They usually feature an adjustment thread that allows controlling the height (within a range permitted by the manufacturer's homologation certification)

Adjustable in height and stiffness

Adjustable in height and decompression, in addition to the possibility of adjusting the height, they also allow adjusting the spring's decompression, commonly known as rebound or stiffness, through precise clicks of an adjustment knob.

Adjustable in height, compression, and decompression

They increase the spring's compression adjustment also with precise and independent clicks of the compression adjustment, some models include adjustable top mounts (to perfect camber and alignment adjustment).

For vehicles with electronic suspension

The DDC option allows for custom lowering and adjustment without sacrificing the functionality of the original electronic suspension and without compatibility errors with the onboard computer, using the vehicle's original buttons.

HAS (height adjustable springs)

A simpler solution, ideal for those seeking a more pronounced lowering without causing issues with the electronic suspension's onboard computer.

The KW height-adjustable spring kit is used to lower the vehicle in combination with standard shock absorbers. Unlike conventional spring kits, a personalized height adjustment is possible within the tested adjustment range. For this solution, vehicle-specific spring seats with adapted KW lowering springs and corresponding elastomers, as well as dust protection systems, are used. The standard damping system, for example, with electronic or hydraulic control, remains active.

For cars without electronic suspension KW DDC ECU

This is a connected solution for vehicles with original electronic suspension. KW DDC ECU includes a connectivity module, driving mode selector buttons, and an app for controlling the driving mode.

Clubsport

KW Clubsport Coilovers seamlessly transfer motorsport technology to daily driving / street use.

 Clubsport 2-Way

Setup: Factory pre-configured damper setting with separately adjustable compression and rebound damping
The basic setup of the 2-way KW Clubsport coilover kit, perfectly tuned for the Nordschleife, allows you to individually adjust your sports car to the desired street tire setup due to numerous adjustment options. The separately adjustable shock absorbers in rebound and compression with their "TVR-A" and "TVC-A" technology enable extensive damper setup. Thus, it is easy to directly influence steering behavior, directional stability, tire grip, and handling characteristics for safe controllability at the limit of driving dynamics. Depending on the vehicle type, 2-way KW Clubsport coilovers are supplied with aluminum top mounts.

Clubsport 3-way

Setup: Factory pre-configured damping setting with separate 3-way damper adjustment
Similar to the KW Competition racing suspension used in international motorsport, the 3-way KW Clubsport coilover kit allows separate compression damping adjustment in low and high-speed ranges. The click adjustment of the "TVCLH-A" technology is done directly on the expansion tank. You can manually vary the low-speed compression level with six precise clicks on the purple adjustment dial. With the golden adjustment dial underneath, you can individually influence the change of the high-speed compression setting for your track day with 14 exact clicks from the recommended basic setting. Independently of this, there are still 16 clicks available to noticeably adjust the rebound damping using "TVR-A" technology. If you want to adjust the 3-way KW Clubsport coilover kit, which is available with a technical component report, to be more comfortable for your road trip to the Nordschleife or a different racetrack, simply reduce the rebound forces through the rebound stage damping. For the KW Clubsport, the used 3-way racing technology from the multiple overall winner of the ADAC Zurich 24h Race Nürburgring remains compatible with aluminum top mounts.

Competition

KW Competition racing suspensions

KW Competition racing coilovers with their 3 damping versions (2A, 2A / 3A EXR, and 4A) have been synonymous with exceptional performance and reliability in popular sports and top international motorsport for years. The spectrum ranges from homologated series equipment for FIA GT3 race cars to equipment in different brand cups (BMW M235i Racing, ...) or up to individual customization for hill climbs, drifting, long-distance series, rallies, touring car series, and much more. GT or touring car championships: championships and races are won with KW Competition racing suspensions. Countless class victories and seven overall victories in the toughest endurance race in the world, the ADAC Total 24h-Race Nürburgring on the Nordschleife, are impressive proof of the performance, quality, and reliability of our racing program.

HLS Make your sports car adapt better to everyday driving conditions. (hydraulic lift system)

KW lift kit creates more ground clearance at the push of a button for lowered cars. The individual universal conversion kit of the KW HLS lift kit is installed in combination with a coilover kit. The hydraulic unit that raises or lowers the vehicle is mounted between the spring plate and the spring. The required installation space for the cylinder unit is 65 mm. For vehicles with low ground clearance to easily overcome obstacles.

Can be activated while driving (up to 80 km/h)

Fast lifting (4-5 seconds HLS2; 6-8 seconds HLS4)
